Getting ready for Halloween

I haven't done a lot of Halloween decorating, but I love to hang this flag that I made years ago:

Isn't this mum pretty?

I bought this painted rock at a craft show.

We gathered our little pumpkins up and headed to the Chesterfield Pumpkin Patch.

They are so happy.

Mommy, Alex and Meg are ready!

Checking out the animals.

Admiring this rooster -

Alex

Papa and Alex.

Playing in the hay is ----

fun, especially with Papa.

Meg loved this!

Wagon ride to pick out our pumpkins.

Taking a rest.

Looking --

They are the sweetest.

Which one??

We finally made up our minds. Fun, fun, fun!!

Where are my glasses??

I had to start wearing glasses to read and do needlework about 3 years ago = you know that age thing. I am not nearsighted = I don't need glasses for driving, reading billboards, etc... I started seeing an eye specialist about a year ago because I was experiencing some strange symptoms and since glaucoma runs in my family and the thought of having a serious eye problem scares me I didn't want to take any chances. The verdict: I was on the borderline of having glaucoma and my MD wanted to monitor it, so I go every 6 months for a checkup. (Once you start using the drops to keep your pressure down you can never stop using the drops). I wear bifocals - the progressive kind which cost about $200 from Walmart. I have misplaced my glasses more times than I like to admit. I recently lost them (a new pair purchased 6 months ago) after seeing my MD and my prescription had changed. So, I had to fork out another $200. When I picked them up, Walmart had these cute little holders and I couldn't resist. These are my new glasses resting on my new "nurse" holder. Now I just have to remember to put the glasses on the holder - I have always had a bad habit of just laying my glasses down anywhere - plus, I tend to put them over the top of my blouse, dress, whatever I am wearing - and of course when I bend over - off fall the glasses. I have tried those necklace thingies to hold my glasses but I just don't like them. I am definitely going to make a effort to be more careful.

So ugly, she's kind of cute?

Over the last few years I have purchased cheap glasses to use for short periods and I have them all over the house and office just in case... I bought these from the $ bins at Target last week. I also got these cute little Halloween tins:

I love those $ bins - you can really get some cute things.

I really didn't need to buy anymore glasses - this is my collection:

I had no idea I had this many until I put them all together.
I have them everywhere: every room, every drawer, in my car, purse. There is nothing worse than getting to a restaurant and discover you left your glasses at home - so I always keep a pair of these in my purse. They are ok for a short time, but they hurt my eyes if I use them for an extended period. (I have tried all strengths, the 1.25 or 1.50 is the best for me).

Moebius knitting again--

This is Patty, one of the nurses I work with. She told me that she wanted to learn how to knit so she could make some scarves. She saw my orange moebius scarf/wrap and wanted to learn how to make one. Well.. I told her it probably shouldn't be her first knit project. I told her I would make her one while she was learning to knit scarves. When I showed her my second attempt at moebius knitting, she seemed to like it and I told her she could have it. I could tell she really appreciated it. I asked her if she would bring it back so I could get a picture. She wore it to the office today and she looked great in it. Isn't she the cutest? I should have gotten a full view - she had blue scrub pants and blue crocks. I always admire her outfits - very bright and cute!. Anyway, I started showing her how to knit today - she picked it up right away. She will be kniting the moebius technique in no time.

Precious!

One more great picture. Another nurse in the office ask me if I would make her one. We may have started something.

Just a short update

Even though our garden looks like this pile of mess:

We still got this out of the garden today: lots of great tomatoes, two very small peppers, and believe it or not that is a melon on the right. It is about the size of a big orange. I was sure that it wouldn't be fit to eat, but...

Dave loved it - he doesn't really like watermelon. It was pretty tasty.

I was very surprised to fine this pretty pink fruit.

Lots of seeds!

Our new swing that Dave ordered on the internet. This is the swing set that Mr. Robertson made for me years ago. It has been taken apart and moved several times over the years. The swing broke about a month ago while Dave and I were on it!! Glad it happened to us and not one of the kids. I didn't realize how much I enjoyed swinging on it until it was gone. It is placed in front of our vegetable garden and I am glad to have it back.

Of course Dave had to put it together.

Putting it together!!

So after all that work we had a glass of wine. Dave likes Zinfandel (on the right) and I like Cabernet. I decided to start another Christmas present - it was such a beautiful day to sit outside and enjoy.

This yarn will make a nice scarf. Black and brown eyelash yarn.

I learned a new knitting technique and it was a struggle at first. This is the "Rhythm Wrap" from "A Treasury of Magical Knitting". The book is by Cat Bordhi and she has come up with this technique based on the moebius strip - I won't go into any details because I would only confuse you. I really love this wrap, but it turned out too big - not sure why so I made another one:

I had this yarn on hand and it did turn out better. I hadn't added the fringe yet to this one. I ended up giving to a girl I work with. She loved the orange one I made and she wants to learn how to knit and crochet, so I told her no problem. But, this isn't the project to start with when you don't know how to knit - a simple scarf is much better. This pattern really works up fast, once you get the hang of it. I cast on for a black one over the weekend.

Two more Christmas present scarves.

Finally finished these baby hats and packaged them to mail off to the newest addition to our family. Emma Catherine - my cousin Loretta's grandaughter.

Ribbon hat on the left, cupcake hat and a pumpkin hat.

I posted about starting the pumpkin hat several weeks ago. This pattern just did not turn out right, so I went back to a pattern I used previously for the twins.

But that didn't work out immediately either. I used a different type of yarn and the size was wacky. The one on the left is tiny - might fit a preemie baby or a doll baby, so I went up on the needle size and it turned out a little bigger. Hopefully it will fit, if not I told them to let me know and I will make another. I love making baby items for a lot of reasons - cute and quick!

This is the little ribbon hat. I sent several different color ribbons so it will match other outfits.
