Catching up

I am still getting movies from the library.  I watch them when I am sewing, knitting or doing computer stuff.  This story was very sweet.

Wow, this was so good and touching.  Julie Christie was wonderful.  A sad story about alzheimer 's affecting a couple married for almost 50 years.  A tear jerker.

Loved this.  I love these period stories.

I listened to this on my ipod.  I think I missed some important segments.  I have the book and plan on reading it  - next on my list.

Oh, if you haven't seen this you should.  A documentary charting early development of four babies - one from San Francisco, one from Namibia, one from Mongolia and one from Tokyo.  Quote from the jacket: " illustrating what makes human life unique, similar and precious wherever it occurs."  Fascinating seeing different cultures and how they raise their children - it was amazing to me.

So, I am going to bed to finish this book.  I am almost done.  I love the Twilight Saga books, which really surprised me, I didn't think I would like them.

Meighan's school picture.  I couldn't find Alex but I know I have his.  They are growing way to fast.

Trying to learn how to sew

The original sewing machine we bought Emmy did not work, the stitching was horrible and I couldn't do a thing with it.  So we took it back and ordered another one.....this one.  Emmy came over on Sunday and we had our first sewing lesson.  Things went well for a while.  But for some reason the thread starting breaking.  I tried everything but nothing worked.
She did learn a few things about basic sewing.

She learned to sew buttons on....and played around with all the different stitches..

and made a pillow, in her favorite color of course.

Pretty darn good for a first project.  This kid amazes me.  I just don't want her to get discouraged and I don't think she will, she seems to go with the flow -

So we packed this machine back up so we could return it and order another one.

John Martin's 60th Birthday Celebration

On Saturday we headed to Aylett for John's BD celebration.  Great food, Great music and Great company.
Jeannette looking great.
The food was scrumptious - barbecue, slaw, beans and much more.
Blue Grass music - I had no idea how good John could sing.
Pamela - love her so much..
Our cute new family RN - so proud of her.
So glad Tracie could come.
Courtney sang - it was so marvelous - just WOW!
Cute, delicious cake.
Happy, Happy Birthday John.

New Orleans

On New Years Eve Dave and I headed south again for the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.
We stayed at Quality Inn that was a good little ways from Bourbon Street - no problem - we could get the trolley right outside of our hotel.  We never had to wait more than 5 minutes and the charge was very reasonable.
The first night we headed for Bourban Street to celebrate.
We had dinner at the best restaurant and luckily we sat outside on the balcony.
Dave's appetizer, those shrimp were huge and delish.
Gumbo - Dave's favorite - he had it every day while we were there.
My dinner - OMG - it was the best.  It was a seafood mixture and grits stacked high.  I love grits and these were the best.
Then we just walked around.
Selling shots on the street  - shameful...
I had one anyway...
Found this great place with a band - we enjoyed dancing and well, drinking.
We took a Pedicab home, it was fun riding while the driver of the cycle pointed out places of interest.  It cost $10 which I thought was very reasonable.
Nice young man, working his way through college.
Our room was very small but very cute and cozy.
Had a great TV.
Sorrow to say this was my last picture in New Orleans.  I messed up some how and lost the pictures of the game at the super dome.  I was really mad.  But we had a blast.  Hokies played Michigan and they played a great game.  They lost by 3 points but they should have won.  23/20.
I found a few more pictures of Dave's birthday celebration.
I bought Dave a Mini Keurig so he could take it when we travel.. The man loves his coffee.
